This course is designed for Heritage learners to develop their language skills. Although listening and speaking skills will be fine-tuned, emphasis is placed on reading and writing while strengthening student’s individual literacy skills. Students will be able to show basic control of language in their writing, and be able to identify the general meaning in written texts. Unit themes focus on the development of personal identity as well as social and cultural awareness of Spanish speaking countries. Literature of all genres will be studied, namely: short story, essay, novel, poetry and theater. Current events throughout the Spanish speaking world based on unit themes are also introduced.
